K-27 No. 463 Comes to the D&SW

Over the last five years the D&RGW has abandoned a number of low volume branchlines. The largest engines that could be used on these lines were the K-27 class Mikados. However, these engines are of litle use on the remaining D&RGW Antonito to Durango and Durango to Farmington lines. The D&SW was able to purchase K-27 #463 earlier this month. It had just been shopped in Alamosa and is immediately being pressed into service on the Montrose to Silverton Line. The photo below shows it stopped at the Robinson Mine on Red Mountain. It performed flawlessly and allows us to greatly increase revenue tons compared to the C-19 which have been used on this run before
