Santa Fe Class 2-10-2 #906

In 1918 the United States Railroad Administration allocated the Colorado and Southern (C&S) five Santa Fe type 2-10-2 locomotives. In 1919 an additional five heavy Santa Fe type 2-10-2 steam engines (C&S #906-909) were authorized by the USRA. Just this past month (May 1952) the C&S sold 2-10-2 #906 to the Denver and Southwestern Railroad where we plan to use it on the drag freights that run from Santa Fe to Denver on a MWF round trip schedule. The photo below shows the big engine on Tennessee Pass just freshly lettered for the D&SW. As we have with other recently obtained steam engines we plan to retain the original C&S number #906. The only change we have made to the locomotive is to add a doghouse for the head brakeman.
